This year marks the 100th anniversary of the United States’ entry into World War I. Thoughts of World War I bring visions of trench warfare, no man’s land, and deadly machine gun fire causing almost countless casualties. While this upheaval occurred on the battlefields of the Western Front and around the world, the war had other realities to those who served in support of American troops. Award-winning writer Larry Luckett will discuss some of the little-known military units and civilian organizations in France that helped to sustain the fight and maintain the morale of those in the trenches.
First Families of Bexar County honorees will be recognized. SAGHS officers for 2017–2019 will be inducted.
